When newcomers in the Fredericton Chinese community asked to hear about the province's public health system from someone in the public heath sector, their wish came true on Sunday.

Dr. Sen Yan of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital gave an introductory presentation on the health care system in New Brunswick to a group of over 30 newcomers at the CCANB's public lectures series on October 20.

Dr. Yan touched on some of the most popular health care related topics for newcomers including finding a family doctor, accessing walk-in and after-hours clinics in the city, the 811 Tele-care number and other critical information during the hour-long presentation.

Several good questions were asked after the presentation and many newcomers we spoke to left the event feeling more informed and more confident about their ability to navigate the health care system when dealing with medical emergencies and health related issues in general.
