A. Chinese School Curriculum

The Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick (CCANB)-affiliated Chinese School will commence on September 17th, with the school year running from September to June, following the local public school calendar. Currently, we offer 17 courses, with classes on Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM and Saturdays from 4 PM to 8 PM at two locations.

Additionally, we have online square dance, adult basketball, adult soccer, and adult volleyball teams. Feel free to inquire.

Courses & Locations

1. Margaret Norrie McCain Hall at St. Thomas University (STU):

On Sundays, except for public holidays, from 12 PM to 4 PM (starting September 17, 2023).

Courses: Chinese language, Dance, Mathematics, French for ages 5-10, Art, Calligraphy, Chess, and Lion Dance.

2. École Sainte-Anne gymnasium :

On Saturdays, except for public holidays, from 4 PM to 8 PM (starting September 16, 2023).

Courses: Basketball for students aged 12 and over, Basketball for students aged 12 under, and Tai Chi.

You can register membership & courses on September 9, from 3 pm – 5 pm at the Wilmot Park. Fredericton. Other registration dates & locations are available (see below).

B. About CCANB

The Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick (CCANB) is a non-profit organization established in 1977. The association's mission is to provide Chinese language and cultural courses, promote the development of Chinese culture, and contribute to Canada's multiculturalism. It also fosters friendships and connections among Chinese-Canadian communities. CCANB is based in Fredericton and serves the Greater Fredericton area as well as other regions of New Brunswick.

Currently, CCANB's activities include an elected Board of Directors, the Chinese Language School, a dance troupe, a Youth group, a Fredericton Chinese Business Support group, Public Lectures, a Fundraising group, a Volunteer group, a Property, Car and Lawn Maintenance group, a Culinary group, and Volleyball, Soccer, and Basketball clubs.

All CCANB members are volunteers who support and assist each other, creating a warm and welcoming community with the Chinese Language School at its core.

Current activities include:

  • Offering Chinese School classes for members and children ($100/subject/year).
  • Providing facilities and online access for all classes of the Chinese Language School and various sports clubs, including volleyball, soccer, basketball, Tai Chi, and a dance troupe.
  • Organizing celebration events for major holidays such as the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Chinese New Year.
  • Hosting the annual Spring Gala performance.
  • Focusing on talent development for Chinese language education.
  • Reaching out to and supporting newcomers in adapting to local life, including providing services like driver's license translation ($15).

The association relies on membership fees (family: $30/year, individual: $15/year) and sponsorships from public & business sectors to fund its operations.

C. Fees, Courses & Registration

  1. Fees:

    • Membership: $30/year for families and $15/year for individuals.
    • Yearly course fee: Each class is 1 hour, with a yearly course fee of $100 per subject, and Tai Chi is 1.5 hours with a yearly course fee of $150.

    b. Starting September 16th, every Saturday, except public holidays, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Chinese School reception desk, at École Sainte-Anne gymnasium (715 Priestman St.).

D. Volunteers Needed

Calling on parents, members, and youth to consider volunteering. All our Chinese School teachers and support staff are volunteers. Your support makes a significant difference! Chinese School will provide volunteer certificates to those in need.

We need volunteers to form an Education sub-committee. Committee members will take turns on Sundays, ensuring the logistical support, safety, and smooth operation of the Chinese School. Parents of Chinese School students are especially welcome to join and provide support while your child is in class and go home with them when their classes end.

中文学校课程设置和注册流程介绍

一、中文学校课程:

新布伦瑞克中华文化协会(Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick简称CCANB或协会)下属的中文学校将于9月17日正式开学,学年起止日期与本地学校一样9月-6月。目前设置17门课,时间是每周日12-4点和每周六下午4-8点。

本学年中文学校有两个室内场地:

二、有关CCANB:

CCANB所有成员均为义工,互相帮助,相互扶持,在异国他乡营造出新的家乡。

协会目前的活动:

1、为中文学校文化课和排球、足球、篮球、舞蹈和太极等运动提供场地(租赁学校教室及体育场馆,为线上广场舞提供zoom教室;

2、在重大节日组织联欢活动,比如端午,中秋和春节等;

3、组织每年的春晚表演,并对会员实施优惠票价;

4、致力于对华文教育的人才培养;

5、为新移民尽快适应本地生活提供帮助,并提供驾照翻译($15)等

6、为会员及孩子提供中文学校($100/科/年)

协会运转依靠会费(家庭$30/年, 个人$15/年)和商业赞助。

四、义工募集:

CCANB的所有成员,包括中文学校的老师和后勤都是志愿者组成。欢迎您毛遂自荐。中文学校将对有需要的义工提供义工证明。

中文学校开学后需要义工若干组成education sub-committee。成员需要每周日轮流坐班,负责中文学校后勤保障,以保证学校的正常运行。特别欢迎参加中文学校的孩子家长的加入:孩子上课的时候保障后勤,孩子课程结束可以跟孩子一起回家。
