Employment is considered a top priority by many newcomers when they arrive in Canada but an overwhelming number of newcomers in the Chinese community say that accessing the local job market is one of the biggest challenges they face. So CCANB speaker series organizers decided to put on a presentation on how newcomers can crack the code of job hunting in New Brunswick. Mr. Adam Luo (who has many years workforce development experience in both the private and public sector) gave a job market access presentation on November 3 to a group of Chinese newcomers.
The presentation focused on assessing job readiness, looking for jobs online and offline, the resume, interview and follow ups for newcomers. Drawing from his own experience and the experience of others, Adam expanded on these topics and kept it personal and relevant.
Ms. Vivian Qi also shared some of her job hunting experience with the group and talked about accessing some of the resources available to newcomers at newcomer settlement agencies.
